Prepare

Like any medical treatment, a BOTOX® treatment requires a bit of preparation so you can undergo the injection and recover better. You’ll need to follow the advice given to you by your medical injector before your treatment. They may tell you to do a few things, such as:

avoid  alcohol (this can increase bruising)
stop taking certain supplements and medications for a specific amount of time beforehand (this can increase bleeding and bruising, or may be incompatible with BOTOX®)
avoid suntanning (this compromises the body’s healing processes so you’ll probably experience a longer recovery)

All of these things will help your body be better prepared for the injection, and expedite your recovery. Make sure you follow your injector’s advice for your safety.

Right before injection, an ice pack applied the injection site(s) may help numb the area, making the treatment less uncomfortable. A topical anesthetic may also be applied, however only use a product that is recommended by your medical professional. If you are worried about the discomfort, you may also take Tylenol or a pain reliever containing ibuprofen. Avoid aspirin-based medications, as they will increase the rate of bruising and bleeding.
